QUESTION:
I have a Legacy 696 garage opener with the LEARN button on the wall. I’m trying to program a Linear remote but I’m not successful. The LEARN button doesn’t flash and I don’t know if I’m supposed to keep pushing the remote button or hold it down. Please help!
One Button Garage Door Remote Programming: 1. Look on the back panel of the power head (motor mounted to the ceiling). In the lower, right hand corner you will find a “learn code” button and learn indicator light. See the image (below) and the red circle around the learn code button and the learn indicator light. Extra garage door opener remotes come in handy; however, choosing the right opener can be confusing. Each manufacturer makes its own replacement remotes, and universal remotes are also available.
ANSWER:
Hi Donna,
If you have a Linear Megacode garage door remote, the process should be the same as when programming an Overhead Door garage door remote.
Hi Donna,
If you have a Linear Megacode garage door remote, the process should be the same as when programming an Overhead Door garage door remote.
Take a look at my Overhead Door Legacy 496 and 696 programming post to see how it is done.
The Legacy 496 and 696 are both programmed the same way. You will also find a picture if you need to locate the LEARN button on the garage door opener power head (the part attached to the ceiling). Try programming with LEARN button on the power head rather than on the wall console.
If this doesn’t work, you might also want to erase all of the programming codes in your garage door opener and then go through the programming steps again.

a. Press and release the LEARN button. The indicator light should start blinking at about 2 times per second.
b. Within 30 seconds, press the garage door remote control button once. The indicator light should now be solid on (no more blinking).
c. Press the garage door remote button one more time and the indicator light should go out to indicate programming is complete.
IMPORTANT: if the indicator light starts blinking at about 4 times per second (twice as fast), your programming sequence stopped. If that happens, just go through the programming steps again.
I hope that helps.
